FYI,
veryone needs to read this as it will effect both conductors and
Eengineers starting Wensday the 4th of November
Subject: ERADS monitoring of timetable speeds on the Florence and Nashville Divisions
The Event Recorder Automated Download System has been and will continue to monitor maximum speeds on all ten divisions, but CSX is moving forward with rolling out timetable speeds to some divisions. When we activate a division for timetable speeds, it means that all timetable speeds will be monitored and reported by ERADS. For example, if the maximum speed over a subdivision for an intermodal train is 70 MPH, but the train traverses a location where the speed is restricted to 40 MPH, ERADs will monitor the train to ensure the train speed> is 40 MPH at that particular location. On November 4, the Florence and Nashville Divisions will go active with timetable speeds being monitored by ERADS.
Our road foremen are reviewing all events (not just speed) prior to handling any event. We are> close to having the road fleet upgraded for ERADS. This means that nearly every trip the> engineer and conductor takes has an ERADS equipped locomotive in the consist. Divisions are handling the over speeds (especially those 5 MPH and greater) as a failure of the crew (engineer and conductor)and not just the engineer’s failure. I am sure that you want your member or members of the crew to comply with the rules. From my conversations with some of you, you expect rules compliance from your members.
I wanted you to be informed that we are moving forward with ERADs monitoring of train speeds on trips. I apologize for not earlier informing you of divisions we> have made active to timetable speed. The Jacksonville division has been active for several months. The Atlanta and Albany divisions went active approximately one month ago.
I will keep you informed as we activate more divisions for timetable speeds.
Let me know if I can be of any assistance.
